Geobase Digital Elevation Data
If you are looking for a Canadian flood risk indicator, the Risk Data Suite™ Canada Flood Bundle from Pitney Bowes Software is the perfect option. Part of our Risk Data Suite, designed for use within the insurance sector, our Canadian flood risk indicator lists cities and towns along Canada’s major rivers that have had a significant historical flood. The cities and towns contained within the database were selected by Pitney Bowes Software. How our Canadian flood risk indicator works
The Canadian Digital Elevation Data (CDED) consists of an ordered array of ground elevations at regularly spaced intervals. The source digital data for CDED at a scale of 1:50,000 is extracted from the hypsographic and hydrographic elements of the National Topographic Data Base (NTDB) or various scaled positional data acquired from the provinces and territories. All CDED data panels were set to 3 meter intervals for the model.
When used in conjunction with Pitney Bowes Software StreetPro data, our Canadian flood risk indicator also enables buffering of selected river objects (based on Roster list).
Using our Canadian flood risk indicator within your business
Our Risk Data Suite Canada Flood Bundle is an ideal solution for anyone in the insurance sector doing business in Canada. It provides you with accurate, up-to-date data, so that you can make well-informed decisions.Note: Based on using the CDED map sheets, there is a variance in resolution from a minimum of 0.75 arc seconds to a maximum 3 arc seconds for the 1:50,000 NTS tiles. This creates a slight shift of contour lines between panels which in turn creates a shift of the flood zones at these “joined” areas. The following illustration shows the shift. This only occurs with the model data and will not be visible when areas are “digitized” in.
