Workflows and advanced list filtering can enable you to create automated email marketing campaigns that usher customers through a purchase cycle based on their behavior, preferences and location.

Once you understand the basics of Workflows and Filters, it’s possible to combine them to create highly advanced campaigns that can guide customers through a complete purchase cycle. The pbSmart Connections Professional Email Marketing Plan incorporates several features that are particularly useful in creating workflows that can respond based on subscriber behavior, geography and preferences.

Advanced Email List Features

The Professional Email Marketing Plan gives you access to three advanced filters:

  • The Behavioral list filter allows you to create lists for email campaigns based on behaviors like “Has Not Opened”, “Has Clicked” or “Has Subscribed”.
  • The Association list filter allows you to create lists based on the Publications, Lists or Groups your customers Do or Do Not Belong To or are Active or Inactive in. You could, for example, send a special offer to newsletter subscribers using this filter.
  • The Geographical list filter looks at the information collected from your customers when they open and click on your email campaigns, identifying them by the country, state and city they are located in. This list filter would allow you to announce a store opening to customers in a particular city.
Sample Workflow

A campaign incorporating these advanced filters into a workflow might look something like this.

Phase 1: An email announcing a special limited time offer is sent out to subscribers who have opted into your monthly “Professional Products” newsletter using the Association List Filter.

Phase 2: 7 days later, an email reminder is sent out to subscribers who have not acted on the Phase 1 email, identified by a Behavioral List Filter.

Phase 3: Customers who have acted on the offer are sent a Thank You email with an in-store coupon for those who live near physical store locations, and online coupons for those who do not – as identified by a Geographical List Filter.

These new customers can also be automatically added to a list identifying them as having purchased as a result of this campaign, for future promotions and reporting purposes.
