How to Use the Email Campaign Reports Tool
Once you’ve launched your email marketing campaign, you’ll naturally want to know how effective it was. You can do this by tracking results using our pbSmart™ Connections Email Campaign Reports results measurement tool.
Campaign Reports can help you determine exactly what happened with your email campaign – how many emails bounced, how many emails were opened or even the number of subscribers who forwarded your email to a friend. Understanding your Email Campaign Reports
You can view the activity for any email campaign you send.
- Under the ‘Reporting’ tab, you can view a summary of all of your campaigns in an easy-to-understand graph. Below the graph is a Campaign summary.
- Click on the Campaign link here or go to the sub-tab ‘Campaigns’ under the ‘Reporting’ tab to get the statistics on any one particular Campaign.
- Campaign reports on both the ‘Summary’ and ‘Campaigns’ pages automatically display all campaigns sent within the last 30 days. To view analytics for a campaign outside of the default date range, enter the desired date at ‘Show Campaigns From’ and ‘To:.’
- On the ‘Campaigns’ page, select the appropriate date range, find the campaign you wish to view, then click on ‘Get Stats.’ From here, you can click on the campaign you’d like reporting for.
- At the top of this page, there are short cut keys (‘PDF Version’ and ‘Excel Version’) that will allow you to download campaign analytics in a PDF or an Excel file.
- Below the campaign’s title is the subject line. Below that you can view the total sent emails and the date and the time the campaign was sent. Click ‘More Info’ to view the campaign name, creative sent, and the target. You can also click to view other information like the ‘From Name,’ the ‘To Name,’ the ‘Subject Line,’ and the archive URL. You can also click the ‘Preview’ icon to preview the campaign email.
- The line graph displays the number of opens the campaign generated displayed by the date and the time of day.
- Below the graph is the campaign summary which displays delivered emails, opens, the open rate (calculated on emails delivered), the click-through rate (based on unique subscriber clicks), the remove rate, the complaint rate (based on the number of people who clicked on the spam button in their email).
- Click on ‘Bounced’ to view specific hard and soft bounce email addresses. Soft bounces is the percentage of soft bounce addresses.
- ‘Forwards’ allows you to view the number of people who clicked on ‘Forward to a Friend’ link in your creative.
Under ‘Report Navigation’ on the right, you have the following options:
- Click Report which lists all unique and total clicks for every link that was clicked in
- Social Engagement, listing all activity generated via Twitter or Facebook. And if the Campaign wasn’t posted to the social outlets at the time of the send, you can post it by clicking on the ‘Post Now’ button.
- Activity Over Time provides a graph displaying campaign activity over time. Manipulate the date range to display any option over a specified date range. You can also check and uncheck ‘Show Opens,’ ‘Show Clicks,’ and ‘Show Removes’ to choose which analytics will display on the graph. The graph defaults to an hourly graph display. Using the drop-down, you can change your display to Over Time Graph or a Weekly Graph view. Click ‘Submit’ to update the graph to display the dates, analytics and the graph type of your choice.
- Geographic Location shows a world-wide overview of opens by region (under ‘View World’). Click ‘View USA Map’ to view opens broken down by the 50 states.
- Domains displays the number of opens from subscribers receiving emails to a specific domain, such as Yahoo or Hotmail.
- Subscriber Actions displays unique subscribers who have opened, clicked, removed, forwarded, and complained. And here you can also see who was sent the campaign. To edit the subscriber record for anyone who is listed on any of these charts or to view their full subscriber history, click on the email address and choose your options.
Campaign comparisons
Finally, if you want to compare multiple campaigns, go to the ‘Campaigns’ page (under the ‘Emails’ tab). Check the boxes next to the Campaigns you wish to compare then click on the ‘Compare’ button. You’ll see a side-by-side graphical comparison as well as a list of relevant statistics, including emails sent, opens, clicks, removes, and complaints. This is an excellent email report tool to help you evaluate which of your campaigns performed better – and why.
